Nothing goes into these walls. That removes the bracket page from the plan entirely and turns the whole exercise into a furniture problem, which is a better problem to have and a different one to measure.

Three measurements

  • Depth of the surface the panel stands on

    Why it decides

    A panel on a shallow surface is a panel with very little behind its feet, and that is the arrangement that goes over.

    How to take it

    Measure front to back on the furniture, then measure the footprint of the panel stand it will actually sit on.

    What it rules out

    Any panel whose stand is deeper than the furniture, and any position where the stand overhangs at all.

  • Surface height against seated eye height

    Why it decides

    With no bracket, the furniture is the only height adjustment available, so it has to be right rather than convenient.

    How to take it

    Measure the furniture surface from the floor, then measure your seated eye height, and compare the two before buying either.

    What it rules out

    Any combination that puts the picture center more than a few inches away from the seated sight line.

  • Cord path to the outlet

    Why it decides

    Without wall fixings, the cord runs across the room in the open, and its length has to match the route rather than the straight line.

    How to take it

    Run a tape from the furniture position to the socket along the floor path the cord will actually take.

    What it rules out

    Any furniture position whose cord would cross a doorway or a walkway, whatever the length available.

Room constraints

  • Drilling is not available, so every load ends up in furniture rather than in the building.
  • Furniture that is not fixed to a wall is furniture that can be pulled over.
  • Floor space is the scarce resource here, not wall space.
  • A tenancy often rules out adhesive surface channels as well as fixings.
  • Everything has to be reversible, because at some point all of it leaves.

Order of work

  1. Measure the furniture you already haveDepth, width and height of every surface that could hold a panel. Most no-drill plans are decided here and go no further.
  2. Check the panel stand against those figuresThe stand footprint from the panel documentation, compared with the furniture depth. An overhang of any size is a stop.
  3. Set the seating distance from the panel sizeIn a small room this usually works backward: the distance available decides how large a panel makes sense.
  4. Plan the cord path in the openAlong the wall base, never under a rug, never across a doorway. Measure that path and buy the length it needs.
  5. Fit the anti-tip hardwareUse what came with the furniture and with the panel, following the documentation for both. If nothing came with the furniture, change the furniture.

A panel standing on furniture is the arrangement most likely to be pulled over, and the risk is highest in a home with children or animals. Use the anti-tip hardware supplied with the furniture and with the panel, and follow the documentation for both. If the furniture supplies none, choose different furniture rather than improvising a fixing. Never run the cord under a rug or across a doorway to keep it out of sight.
